Keeping dangerous criminals out of our neighborhoods is one of my top priorities. It’s why I voted against the so-called “SAFE-T” Act. Some people in Springfield thought it was a good idea to end cash bail for murder, sexual assault, and other violent crimes. I thought it was a bad idea and voted against it.
I support law enforcement and think the police should be funded, not defunded.
Keeping families safe must also include real efforts to end the never-ending tragedies of mass shootings. No matter where it occurs it feels like an assault on all of us.
I have always supported common sense gun safety measures, like a ban on high-capacity magazines and universal background checks. We also need to enforce our red flag laws, which may have prevented a tragedy like what happened in Highland Park on July 4, 2022.
